I successfully compiled and installed the Mplayer on Ubuntu. However, when I try to play a video, it only gives sound with no video output. I get a list of errors when starting playback.

vo_cvidix: No vidix driver name provided, probing available ones (-v option for details.
Fixed: The issue is due to unavailability of some X11 development packages. I installed those dev packages and reinstalled mplayer, and now it successfully plays videos.
