2021-10-08 Waiting for a Sign

Isn’t it interesting to consider that the only difference between “dread” and “dream” is a single letter?

What other possible realities in our lives are only separated by a hair?

A trick of the Ego is to make things complex when in truth, a tiny nudge can radically change everything.

In my work as a coach, I’ve referenced one of Tony Robbin’s teaching along this same theme many times. He gives an example of two sentences:

The dog bit Billy.
Billy bit the dog.

These two sentences contain the exact same words — they’re just placed in a different order and because of this, each tells a completely different story.

What’s the internal order of your story? Are you framing it in an empowered way? Or is it full of quicksand and unscalable walls?

I read a quote this weekend from James Clear (author of Atomic Habits): “Motivation comes after starting, not before. Action produces momentum.”

A lot of us are waiting for the sign before we dive in. We’re waiting for proof before we believe. We’re waiting to feel like it before we invest our energy.

We’re waiting for something to happen instead of making something happen.

We have the order wrong. We misperceive how close our true heart’s desire rides beside the current, less satisfying iteration of our lives. We wait on life, tragically, while life, in turn, waits on us.
