Write For Your Readers, They Say!

Ibelieve I’ve made it amply clear in many of my Medium-related articles that I was here to try my hand at making money after five years of writing on my personal blog. As such, I’ve been reading blogs and blogs about how people, in general, are able to make a ton of money out of blogging.

These are the two most common pieces of advice that bloggers share.

So, I set out trying to write content that readers may want to read about. Well, it speaks for itself. All my Medium-related articles got me some decent amount of Moolah (about $7), whereas my opinion pieces did not rack up that many cents.

So now what?

That’s a question that has been nagging me a lot. I’m struggling to find an answer to why I want to write. On one hand, I would love to create content that helps a lot of people, be it travel or life pointers, or anything interesting I come across.

On the other hand, I just simply want to create content! I want to be able to share my thoughts. But where? But why? It’s hard to understand this feeling of wanting to write content and share it with whoever wants to read it, but I’m perfectly content with just writing and even publishing somewhere where no one will even read it. I often wonder if it’s the ability to say that I have a blog, that not-so-secret desire of wanting to go viral once in my life, or even just the dream of being successful enough that people can follow my growth and be inspired like:

If she can do it, so can I!

When I write, I try to write something that’s useful to someone at least. If my blogs make you think, I’ve succeeded. If it has taught you something new, I’ve succeeded there also.

As I sat down to write this, I’m slowly starting to see clarity seep in.

How do you hone your art?

Write, they say! Keep writing, and you’ll get better.

Writing publicly puts you in the spotlight. It puts you in a position where you are responsible for your own content and thus earns you the responsibility to keep writing and improving your skills.

Is this maybe my reason to write a blog? Sigh. I guess I’ll have to keep searching for my why, but meanwhile, I’ll continue to keep writing and sharing, and hoping that at least one person finds it useful.
