1. Press e with one item highlighted in the booting list
2. Select the term beginning with "kernel", press e
3. On the editing screen, press the Backspace key and type single after the string
4. Press b to boot the system with a single mode
5. After the root@nora-desktop:~# prompt, type passwd root
