Department Overview
The Security Technologies and Response (STAR) group is responsible for developing and maintaining the core security components that are used in Norton and Symantec desktop protection products. These technologies are at the forefront of the battle against today's threats. The STAR group is home to Symantec's security experts. The group is high-talent and high-energy, pushing new technologies that must achieve the best detection, best performance, and best user experience in the marketplace.
Responsibilities
· Work with developers or other QA team members to execute test cases, debug and resolve issues, track and prioritize defects, and report results.
· Follow and improve QA best practices.
· Collaborate with other team members, view the big picture, and question decisions to evolve the testing process.
· Think from a customer perspective, and creatively solve real user problems.
· Ability to give accurate status to the rest of the group on daily activities and works well with the other members of the team.
· Communicates well with other members of the team and takes direction from more senior members of the team and is able to perform the tasks according to specification.
· Able to present concepts to the rest of the QA group during QA meetings and able to write clearly about relevant work products, for example, QA plans, strategies, defects, problem descriptions and status reports.
· Use programming skills to solve QA problems and create automation scripts.
· Assists other SQA Engineers in test strategies, test cases and coverage matrices.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
· 2+ years of relevant experience with Software Quality Assurance
· Open-minded with an interest in researching new QA tools and open source technologies, prototyping solutions and then implementing them
· Solid understanding of OOP, such as C++/Java, 1+ year of experience
· Solid knowledge of Operating Systems : Windows
· Experience in working with automation frameworks
· Proficient with scripting language, like Python/Perl , as well as the ability to quickly develop scripts and improve testing efficiency
· The candidate must be action-oriented; passionate; detail centric; ability to work independently and set priorities; strong problem solving skills; good written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to collaborate with others.
· Knowledge of security is a plus.
