The Road Not Taken

一條路,左邊是熊掌,右邊是魚。
喜歡熊掌的人選了熊掌,喜歡魚的人選了魚。
選熊掌的人又面對面包和蛋糕的選擇,選魚的人又面對粥和飯的選擇,於是人流再次疏散……
走得遠了回頭看時,不同路上的人就是各自不同的命運。

人隨時隨地都在做選擇,性格會決定你選哪條,而路上所經歷的一切,又隨時在塑造你的性格。
人又總是會選擇相對最優解——比如,某些命運之路可能經濟上未必合算,但會讓人獲得額外的心靈慰藉(安全感,舒適感,之類)。
所以到最後,人的命運,就是因爲自己的傾向、性格和愛好,一路選擇出來的。

所以,是的,性格決定選擇,而選擇決定命運,就是這樣。

順便附弗羅斯特先生的詩。在我看來,這是對性格、選擇和命運最好的詮釋了。
他的The Road Not Taken,就是我們因爲性格而未去嘗試的命運。

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
