一條路，左邊是熊掌，右邊是魚。
喜歡熊掌的人選了熊掌，喜歡魚的人選了魚。
選熊掌的人又面對面包和蛋糕的選擇，選魚的人又面對粥和飯的選擇，於是人流再次疏散……
走得遠了回頭看時，不同路上的人就是各自不同的命運。
人隨時隨地都在做選擇，性格會決定你選哪條，而路上所經歷的一切，又隨時在塑造你的性格。
人又總是會選擇相對最優解——比如，某些命運之路可能經濟上未必合算，但會讓人獲得額外的心靈慰藉（安全感，舒適感，之類）。
所以到最後，人的命運，就是因爲自己的傾向、性格和愛好，一路選擇出來的。
所以，是的，性格決定選擇，而選擇決定命運，就是這樣。
順便附弗羅斯特先生的詩。在我看來，這是對性格、選擇和命運最好的詮釋了。
他的The Road Not Taken，就是我們因爲性格而未去嘗試的命運。
