This so-called money, won't come into your pocket by itself! It is up to everyone of you, my dear toastmasters, my elite. My elite who won’t give up for not being greedy.
When was your most difficult time? Forgot your Alipay password? Lose your job? Both happened to me. Back to 2010, my boss flew to Shanghai and dismissed our team. I had to find an internal job within 2 weeks or be fired. Under huge pressure, I was interviewed by several teams but failed. I knew I had to have a job, but each job seemed not that interesting . Finally, I got one and started to learn new stuff. During project meetings, I seldom gave any idea, and everything seemed not that interesting. Someone even did not notice that I was on the same meeting with him. I asked my new manager, "I want to be promoted! " My manager replied “You are greedy, which is good. Keep going and pay attention to these areas, speak out confidently, show your interest, demonstrate your leadership...” The year after, I asked again and got exactly the same long list, "speak out confidently, show your interest , demonstrate your leadership"... and the same words "You are greedy, which is good." One day, he told me “A toastmaster club is to be setup in the office. Why not go and check it out?”.
What’s toastmasters? Should I bring my forks or chopsticks? With the curiosity, I came to the meeting. I made decision immediately to stay and join the club. The 1st time ever I could make a decision so quickly. Soon I found myself addicted to toastmasters for more than 5 years. Years after, my classmates were talking about the 15th anniversary reunion event in WeChat group. Such topic had be discussing for more than 10 years, and we missed the 10th anniversary sine no one came out to organize it. I suddenly realized it won't happen by itself if I did not stand up. I said, "I want to fulfill our reunion dream. Anyone join me?" Immedieatley I formed a team of active and warm-hearted classmates. We went through every difficult to that memorable day. That day, my classmates were so enjoying themselves. They were all so surprised that I was the one stood up. I was so glad to see that. Now, If my colleagues asks me to direct annual party, I will say “Why not? I want we have a great evening.” If my manager asks me to own a new app, I will say “Why not? I want to quickly pick up."
Dear toastmasters, my elite, let me tell you something. There is no one by natural wants to be seen greedy. I have been a confident man, and I had been a timid man most of my life. Now, I choose confident every time. Cause, at least as confident man, when I have to face my problem, I show up with interest, straight chest, focusing eyes. Dear toastmasters, my elite, If you are shy to be greedy, you won't find your interest and be confident. If you are not confident to face a problem, the problem will still be your problem. Today, before you leave this room full of elite, I want you to take a good look at the person next to you. Cause next time you are watching as audience, that person is the guy on the stage doing a contest speech. Cause next time you are fired, that person is the guy announcing your bad news.
So, you listen to me and listen well. Are you unsatisfied with your salary? Good. Go and tell your boss you want more. Did your girl friend or wife think you were a loser? Good. Go and tell her you want to be a winner. I want you to deal with your problems, by being greedy! All you have to do today …is to learn to say, "I want!" “l want!” "I want!" You’ll be greedy! You’ll be confident! You will be undefeatable!
