as we know, linux is an opensource operating system. with many good character, it is well using in a lot of area, in servers, in pcs, and in embedded machines. about two years ago, I am a linux fans, right now, i just take linux as an tools at all, and not a big deal. actully, i almost use windows everyday. and even in embedded system, my cell phone is Window Mobile.
Linux or Windows?
many years ago, my home buy the first pc who is installed windows 98. at that time, the machine usually Blue Screen, say machine error. yet, now i installed windows xp in my notebook which i use right now. however i did not seen that Blue Screen any more. so, windows is a stable product. in linux, the most dadly one is hard to use and feel software for chinese. such as i want to buy something in taobao, linux have not WangWang etc. maybe embedded system is a chance for linux to break down windows in real-time aspect.
for handheld machine, people will also chose windows as OS for its easy to usel. but windows is bad at real-time. real-time operating system, such as uclinux for arm7 who have not mmu, and rtlinux and so on. when writing here, i remember ucos and vxworks.if you are a projcet manage and propose a project in real-time system, ucos, vxworks, linux, which one you will chose? in my experience, many real-time system is a little system, usually work in mcu with a few of memory. ok, linux is lost again.
in pc, we chose windows, in embedded system, we chose vxworks. where is linux? servers maybe the only field. such as google file system, which is based on linux. of course the linux is not a normal one, it is modifed for cluster network.
although the fact is that, but i always envision linux will have a good future.
