In the modern world, the school is becoming unnecessary for children to study; they can use the internet which has a wide range of suitable information available so that they can study at home instead.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

The internet has become an increasingly important feature of the learning environment for teenagers. A recent investigation shows that students use the internet as an essential study aid outside the classroom and that the internet increasingly has a place inside the classroom. The internet has killed newspapers as we knew them; and will the same thing happen to schools?

As a matter of fact, a school might serve many indispensable purposes, with classroom-based education to be the most important one. First of all, teachers can create and modify lessons, fitting them to the diverse instructional needs and abilities of their students, which run the gamut from learning disabilities to giftedness. Besides, students can benefit from the experience of their teachers. If they don’t understand how something works then they can stop the tutor and get more background and maybe the tutor can explain it in a different way. Moreover, teachers can assess students based on specific objectives derived from a set of curricula, and communicate with parents.

It is also said that the years one spends at school are the most formative and enjoyable years of one’s life. Not only do students get exposed to their teachers, and an academic way of thinking, but they also meet other students, hopefully from a wide variety of backgrounds. For some students, going to boarding school is the first time one lives away from home, and begins to establish an identity separated from one’s family.

Although students are expected to use on-line tutoring with increasing frequency and proficiency, there is little doubt that school is still the most comprehensive entity of education. The internet facility can best be viewed as a valuable access tool to be used within the framework of a professionally guided curriculum.
