git clone 出现证书过期错误

今天在虚拟机使用git clone仓库时出现证书的错误
fatal: unable to access 'http://github.com/php/pecl-search_engine-sphinx.git/': Peer's Certificate has expired.
不知道什么原因造成证书过期，上网找了下解决办法：
git config –global http.sslVerify false
这大概是关闭https证书的验证的意思
在此做个笔记，方便以后再次遇到问题可以快速找到解决办法。欢迎大神来解释下这个问题出现的原因。
