Overview for what's new in Exchange14?

Microsoft will release its new Exchange2010 on Nov.7, 2009. By now, we have already been able to get a pre-release build. And the MS had also released its TechNet Library for Exchange2010. Now, let's see what's new in it.

1. Exchange14 removed the concept of Storage Group.
Public folder databases and mailbox databases have been moved to the organization leve. This change would cause a problem if you still use the ancient way that provide same database name across different servers in the same organization. Only the first database can be registed in the AD. You must provide diffenent database names for each individual database even they are on the different server. We can see it from the ADSI edit.

2.Client Access server role enhanced
In the previous version, Exchange2007, CAS role is only used for "remote users" to connect to the mail server. The local users who used the Outlook client can connect to the mailbox directly. In the new version, microsoft enhanced the CAS role's ability. "CAS is true middle tier with new services and functionality designed to restrict all Outlook data access to a single common path by migrating Mailbox and Directory endpoints to CAS", "Outlook data connections go to RPC Client Access service on CAS instead of connecting directly to mailbox  servers", "Address Book service on CAS replaces the DSProxy interface", "Public folder connections connect directly to the Mailbox server, but through RPC Client Access service on backend"
