I met my father for the first time when i was 28 years old.

And i made up my mind when i was a yong kid that when i had children...

大意

Throught this part, we know that the story takes place in San Francisco in 1981.The protagonist's name is Chris Gardner. He is a salsman for a bone-density scanner, and he has a son.
