        put down roots    是指紮根於在某地建立永久的住所的意思。

　　put (one) in mind, means to remind.是指想起的意思。例如：

　　You put me in mind of your grandmother.

　　你使我想起你的祖母

　　put (one's) finger on, means to identify.是指認出，識別的意思。例如：

　　I can't put my finger on the person in that photograph.

　　我認不出照片中的那個人。

　　put paid to, means to finish off.是指結束；使…休息的意思。例如：

　　We've given up saying we only kill to eat; Kraft dinner and freeze-dried food have put paid to that one?

　　“我們已經放棄說我們只是盡力地吃；卡夫晚餐和凍乾的食物已經使我們停止了”
