關於island-hopping這個詞，hop的動詞意思是單腳跳，快速去（某地）；快速跳上（或跳下）（車輛），（鳥、獸或昆蟲）蹦跳。（反正就是從一個地方跳到另一個地方吧） hopping mad就是“暴怒”。be a short hop 短途旅行（尤指乘飛機）Rio to São Paulo is just a short hop by plane.乘飛機的話從里約到聖保羅只是很短的一段路。
Island-Hopping 就是在島嶼之間來來往往地旅行，從A島“跳”到B島，再從B島“跳”到C島。.....樂此不疲地把一座座島嶼逐一收集到自己的地圖上，這是如今關於海島遊的最時髦的詞彙。特別是在東南亞諸國，散落在南太平洋和印度洋上的島嶼星羅棋佈，再也沒有比這種具備極大機動性的跳島更適合的旅行方式了。因爲每個島可能就是一片度假村，一個酒店，一灣港口，一座城市，隨意選擇想看的風景，隨意跳島，這種日子，才總有期待。
